About
Chanjul Estate, a 212-hectare coffee farm in Soconusco, Mexico, is owned by Teddy Esteve and known for its commitment to sustainability and high-quality coffee. Bordering Guatemala and located between the Sierra Madre de Chiapas Mountains and the Tacaná Volcano, the farm benefits from rich soils, a semi-humid climate, and tropical forest vegetation.
Teddy prioritizes environmental conservation, setting aside 42 hectares for natural fauna and forest lands. His goal is to make Chanjul carbon-neutral, especially in response to climate challenges. The estate also focuses on worker welfare, offering above-minimum wages, literacy programs, and seasonal employment for up to 150 workers.
Chanjul cultivates hybrids like Mundo Maya, Marsellesa, and Starmaya for disease resistance and cup quality. Coffee is selectively handpicked, slow-dried on raised beds, and processed at a wet mill 50km away before being sent to Veracruz for export.
